Seaside Holidays
Sunny Dene is perfectly placed for a sea-side holiday with the award winning Mundesley beach only a mile and a half away (4 mins drive) and a choice of other great beaches nearby. Mundesley is a charming village with places to eat, pubs and a few shops. There is a cafe and toilets on the beach and plenty of parking nearby so this is the best place to take children with their buckets and spades. Walcott is more accessible for those who want to avoid cliff slopes. It is just right for an evening stroll on the promenade. For a quieter stretch of beach Bacton and Trimingham are nearby. Overstrand (of Poppy Land fame) is not far away and the beach there is popular. The Edwardian sea-side towns of Cromer and Sheringham are worth a visit too.
Perfect for walks
Sunny Dene is also well located as a base for walking holidays. Just a few yards away from the cottage, walkers can join the Paston Way. You can enjoy summer evening rambles over the fields and along the Quiet Lanes in the area. A walk to the coast (Mundesley, Bacton or Walcott) can be rewarded with a paddle and some fish and chips or an ice cream. For serious walkers the Weaver’s Way can be joined in North Walsham (only 3 miles away). Or why not take a drive up the coast and walk or bird-watch at Blakeney or Cley?
Family Activities
There is plenty to do in the area. For children there is a soft play centre (Stompers) and a bowling alley in North Walsham (perfect on rainy days) or the amazing Bewilderwood (fantasy playground) near Wroxham. For those looking for a bit of nostalgia, the Bure Valley Railway runs from nearby Aylsham and the North Norfolk Railway starts at Sheringham. Wroxham Barns has a Junior Farm and vintage fairground rides. For adults there is a little cinema at nearby Cromer and the End of the Pier Show offers traditional sea-side entertainment. For history lovers there are fabulous National Trust properties nearby (Felbrigg Hall, Blickling Hall and Sheringham Park). The beautiful Georgian Town of Holt is worth a visit with its wealth of independent shops, tea rooms and antique centres.
Eating out
A major part of Sunny Dene’s charm is the tranquil, rural, location. There are however some great pubs and eating places in neighbouring towns and villages. A favourite is The Ship at Mundesley as they have a spacious garden overlooking the sea, lovely restaurant and a new fish and chip takeaway, The Catch.
We get a lot of questions about whether there is a pub within walking distance. The answer depends on how much you like walking! It is a 30
minute direct walk (which includes a stretch of main road without pavement so not suitable for children) to Mundesley where there are a
number of restaurants and pubs. For those who like a walk it takes a while longer to ramble over the fields and footpaths via the Paston Way to either Mundesley or Bacton. Guests might prefer to go by car or taxi. The North Walsham taxi firm NJE have 5 and 8 seater vehicles and offer reasonable fares. We advise pre-booking your taxi before setting out.
